COMMONGROUND: GIRL'S NIGHT WITH A GOD FOCUS
Join us for CommonGround’s Girls Night with a God Focus on Friday, July 22nd at 7pm as we take God's love from the pews to the pavement!
Women (ages 12+) from Metro Detroit are invited to an amazing night of food, fun, a live worship band and giveaways. All women are welcome and there is no charge for this event!
The outreach focus for this event is #shematters (to be updated). In 2013, there were 14, 046 babies born to girls between the ages of 15 and 19 in Michigan - a rate of 41.3 births per 1,000 girls age 15-19, much higher than the national rate of 26.5 in the same age group. Teenage pregnancy affects not only the mother, but her children as well. Children of teenage mothers are more likely to have lower school achievement and high school graduation rates, have more health problems, be incarcerated at some point during adolescence, give birth themselves as a teenager, and face unemployment as a young adult.
Grace’s Table is a non-profit organization that welcomes, supports and uplifts teen mothers. Offering weekly meals, mentoring, counseling, spiritual exploration, and special events, it is a place of safety, stability and love in the midst of the uncertainty and insecurity many teen moms face in their day-to-day lives.
Lisa Anderson, will be the guest speaker that night. Lisa is the founding director of Grace’s Table and knows firsthand the challenges teen moms face. Pregnant at 17, Lisa struggled while trying to raise her son, attend college and work to sustain them both. In and through that struggle, God equipped Lisa with a desire to connect the broken, hurting, and wandering back to Him. Grace’s Table is the support network she wishes she would have had.
