“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
The black of night made it hard to see where 835 was on the street. Tiny lights shined bright to make the way clear for friends who were daring to dream with me that night about all God had placed in my heart for teen mothers and their kiddos. These tiny lights that pierced the night were also symbols of a prayer that had been prayed a hundred times before.
My prayer has been that 835 would be a beacon of light in this neighborhood. That people would notice that there was something different about it, and be curious. I prayed that our family would find ways to connect and minister to those in the homes near us, and that God would open the doors to build community with not only our neighbors, but teen moms in and around the city.
The once small flame has been fanned and the fire burns bright. The desire to serve Him and others has only become stronger in the last year. We have seen many neighbors in our home for a variety of reasons, and teen moms and their kiddos have become family within these walls. Tonight, I thank God for this home, for the fiery passion that he has placed in my heart, and for the opportunity to give Him thanks for who He is and all He has done.
