Diaper Day

On Monday, August 15, Grace’s Table hosted our first-ever Diaper Day. Between 4 pm and 7 pm, Teen Mamas from all over Grand Rapids were invited to stop by the Richmond House to pick up diapers, wipes, and a literacy kit for their kiddos.

Over the course of the evening, we were able to serve an amazing 82 Teen Mamas. We loved seeing so many new faces at our home and getting to know all the mamas who came. Between all the smiles and popsicles, it was a super fun evening that we will remember for a long time.

You might be asking yourself, where did all of these diapers come from? It was from amazing people and organizations just like you! Over the last two months, Grace’s Table has been blessed with a surplus of diapers. Between individuals shopping our Amazon Wishlist, and organization and churches hosting Hope & Hygiene Drives, our house has been bursting at the seams! We are blessed beyond measure to be surrounded by a community that is committed to walking alongside Teen Mamas and their families.

Thanks to the help of our community partners, word about Diaper Day spread quickly. We were blown away by the response to this event, but we weren’t surprised that such a large need exists. When it comes to diapers, a kiddo will use an average of 8 diapers a day. That’s 6,000 diapers in their first 2 years! Additionally, in Kent county, there are over 500 births to mothers between the ages of 15 and 17 every year. Those mamas represent only about 18% of the population that is able to receive support at Grace’s Table.

Here at Grace’s Table, our mission is to walk alongside Teen Mamas between the ages of 13 and 24. We want to see every Teen Mama in Kent County receive wrap-around care, and be part of a supportive community. And it’s because of your support that we are able to continue caring for these mamas.
