How Grace’s Table’s Persistence Sparked a Mother’s Self-Confidence

When Jaren first heard about Grace's Table, she was just 18, pregnant, and still in high school. At that moment, she felt she had something to prove. Reflecting on her initial reluctance, Jaren shared:

"I was kind of nervous about it. And there was this whole ego thing about 'I can do it myself. I’m a strong, independent woman. I don’t need help.' So I didn’t reach out right away… But I had plenty of people telling me I should."

Jaren wanted to believe she could handle everything alone, even as she faced overwhelming challenges. But Grace’s Table is committed to meeting young mamas where they are. We reached out to Jaren and stayed by her side, even when she wasn’t ready to ask for help. We never gave up, offering support through grocery deliveries during COVID, emotional check-ins, and more. Over time, she discovered what Grace’s Table truly offers: a community of genuine support and compassion.

Jaren’s Determination to Pursue Counseling

One of the turning points for Jaren came through her relationship with one of our staff members, Kerri. Growing up, Jaren had been in an environment that discouraged therapy, but she was determined to get the support she needed. She even took Ubers to counseling sessions while she was still in high school. When COVID disrupted her progress, Jaren confided in Kerri about her frustration.

"I ended up crying to Kerri... and she was like, ‘We have resources for you if you want. I’ll set everything up’... That was life-changing."

With resources and encouragement from Grace’s Table, Jaren found the emotional tools she needed to thrive. This support helped her gain the confidence to step into her role as a mother and even pursue her dream of starting her own business, Selah JE Photography.

Consistent Support for Young Mamas

Mamas travel from across Grand Rapids to join our programs because they know Grace’s Table offers more than basic support. From counseling and mentorship to the genuine friendships they form with staff and fellow mamas, our programs provide life-changing, transformative care. The support these young women receive

strengthens their families and communities for generations to come.

Imagine how many more lives would change if more teen mamas found the same level of support as Jaren. That vision of a brighter future is entirely possible, but it requires resources and community support.
