Introducing Our Newest Team Member: Destany!
We are thrilled to introduce you to the newest addition to our family, Destany! Destany joins us as a Family Advocate, bringing with her a passion, dedication, and commitment to serving our teen mamas and their families.
Roots and Aspirations
Born and raised in Grand Rapids, Destany grew up surrounded by the love of her grandparents and older brother. Her interest in social work led her to Grand Valley State University, where she is currently completing her senior year. Upon graduation, she plans on pursuing a master's degree at the University of Michigan.
Discovering Grace's Table
Curiosity and fate intertwined when Destany discovered Grace's Table through her senior internship matching program. Her first encounter left her captivated by our organization, describing it as "…the hidden gem of Grand Rapids that shouldn't be hidden." Destany's enthusiasm for joining our mission was palpable from the start. She utilized her ingenuity and determination to overcome obstacles to make her interview, even using FaceTime from her car!
A Heartfelt Calling
Driven by a deep-seated desire to uplift women and children, Destany felt an instant connection with Grace's Table. Drawing inspiration from her familial experiences, she is fueled by a commitment to providing teen moms with the support and resources lacking in her upbringing. As Destany says, our organization serves as a sanctuary where individuals from all walks of life are embraced with open arms. Her infectious energy and appreciation for our team's relational dynamics will further enrich our community.
A Day in the Life of a Family Advocate
In her role as a Family Advocate, Destany will work directly with our mamas and offer personalized support and guidance. From one-on-one sessions to empowering group classes, her days will be filled with meaningful connections as she connects mamas to invaluable resources. With a keen interest in expanding our outreach efforts, she is eager to forge partnerships with local schools and community groups to further extend our reach.
Life Beyond Grace's Table
Outside of work, Destany loves music. She even sings and plays the tambourine as a member of her church worship team! She recently participated in a propagation activity with our mamas, sparking a newfound passion for plants. And let's not forget her love for Aldi – a testament to her practicality and resourcefulness!
What Would Your Superpower Be?
"If I had a superpower, it would be teleportation. I'd love to teleport. Then I could grab someone and teleport them with me. I would help moms with transportation struggles get to Grace's Table."
